School will resume on Wednesday, August 26, 2020. Roger Bacon will be starting school with students on campus, 5-days per week. Students can choose between either a 5-day on campus model or a remote model. Information on policies and expectations regarding COVID-19 and remote learning are on our website.

iPad pickup for returning students will take place on either Monday, August 17th from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm or Tuesday, August 18th from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. Pickup should only take about 10 minutes and you can show up anytime during either of these two time windows. Please use the back parking lot and enter through the breezeway. You must have your iPad case for protection purposes (bring it with you) and summer forms must be submitted. We cannot issue an iPad until all required forms have been received - thank you for your cooperation.

Spirit Shop Hours. The Spirit Shop will open as follows:

  • August 17th through 20th: 6:00 - 9:00 pm
  • August 24th and 25th: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm (noon)
  • August 26th: Normal lunch hours resume (11:00 am - 12:15 pm)

Face Coverings. When Roger Bacon starts school on August 26th, all students, faculty, and staff will be required to have a face covering.

  • Roger Bacon will provide every student with a cloth face mask to begin the school year. These are white with the RB logo. The same face mask will be available in the Spirit Shop for $5.
  • Any face covering must be a solid color. No designs, wording, or pictures are allowed outside of a RB logo.
  • Face coverings can be bought or made at home. Please ensure whatever face covering is used, that it:
    • fits snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
    • completely covers the nose and mouth
    • is secured with ties or ear loops
    • includes multiple layers of fabric
    • allows for breathing without restriction
    • can be laundered and machine dried without damage or change to shape
  • While there are many sources for face coverings, they are available at the following locations:
    • A variety of local stores: Target, Old Navy, etc.
    • Click on the “General Catalog” option on the left side. Pick a gender and click “Shop.” Select “School Supplies” from the tiles on the page – it is the last one in the bottom row.
    • Simple cloth face coverings can be made at home. Instructions can be found on the CDC website.

The annual SVDP Thrift Store will be held this year – stay tuned for information about where and when. The Thrift Store
was open to freshmen during the first day of orientation. In addition to supplying students with affordable, gently used spirit wear and uniform items, SVDP raised over $270 to help our neighbors in need.

Calling all Spartans who went on to play at the next level!

We are adding a new video display to the Fogarty Center lobby that will showcase our alumni that played at the collegiate/professional level. You may remember the old photo frames in the basement of Fogarty – this will replace those. We need your help to gather data!

If you played any sport at the next level after your career at RB, please send the following to our Assistant Athletic Director, Brandon Spaeth, at

Photo of you in your collegiate/professional uniform (head shot/action photo)

  1. Full name
  2. Sport(s)
  3. College/Professional Team
  4. Years played
  5. Graduation Year (from Roger Bacon)

If you have any family members that this applies to – please feel free to send that information as well!

Remote Learning

We want to highlight a few key details about our remote learning model for this year, especially as it differs from the model we used last year when schools closed in March:

  • Classes will be broadcast via Zoom so that students not able to be in the classroom can participate in the educational experience.
  • Students will follow their normal class schedule and connect with the class via Zoom during normal class times. Students will not be able to set their own schedule or just complete their assignments without attending Zoom classes.
  • Students will be considered present for attendance purposes if they are either physically or electronically present in class. All attendance policies, including the excessive and chronic absenteeism policy according to state guidelines, remain in effect.
  • Work expectations remain the same for students participating either in-person or remotely.
  • Students requiring help/assistance are responsible for initiating meetings with their teachers or other students (i.e., peer tutoring). The preferred time for this is during the daily Flex period. Students attending remotely can request meetings via Zoom during this time.
  • Families need to ensure that internet connections are robust enough to handle the daily Zoom requirements and a suitable learning environment can be established and maintained at home. A suitable learning environment is one free from distractions and with a designated work station for the student. Students should not be in bed for their Zoom sessions.

In addition, please review the following expectations for student conduct during Zoom sessions:

  • Students must have their full correct name as Zoom participant.
  • Students must have their video on at all times.
  • RB dress code must be observed from the waist up.
  • All disciplinary expectations will be followed (no sleeping, no chewing gum or eating, etc.).

Please review this information with your student. Please also verify that your contact information in SpartanLink is up to date and reply to this email if a change needs to be made or you would like an additional parent or guardian to receive emails like this one. After reviewing these expectations with your student, if you no longer feel this is the best option for starting the year, please contact me by the end of business on Tuesday, August 18. At that time, we will finalize our list of students who are planning to start the year with remote learning, and these students will need to stay remote until the end of the first quarter, Friday, October 16.

If you have any questions about remote learning this year, please do not hesitate to contact me at or 513-641-1300.

Guidance Department

Class of 2021: While many colleges are not yet offering in-person visits, they have developed very informative and worthwhile “virtual” visits for students. Summer is a great time to check these out! They are usually easy to access from the school’s website. This is also a good time to review the College Planning Handbook you received in your RB bag when you dropped off your iPad. When the school year resumes in August, we will start working on Naviance and the Common App.

Spiritual Life

As we plan for your student’s senior year, we are excited to offer 3 opportunities for students to attend a Kairos Retreat. Because of attendance limitations and considerations for families who do not want their student to attend an overnight retreat, a senior retreat is not required for graduation this year. Additionally, Kairos retreat registration will be on a first come, first served basis. If demand exceeds available spots we will investigate further options to accommodate everyone. Also, unlike past years, fall athletes are eligible to attend the August retreat due to the limited number of Kairos spots. We offer three dates and registration will be done on a first come, first served basis. Please review the following dates and choose a date that works best with your schedule.

Kairos Dates for 2020-2021 School Year: August 10-12, 2020; October 7-9, 2020; February 3-5, 2021.

Community Outreach

Senior Service Experience. To provide a more concise understanding of the senior service experience, click here for the “2020-2021 Senior Service Packet.” This document provides the necessary information to understand the requirements and expectations. First, watch the YouTube video that walk you through many details, from ideas to registration. Then, consult the “frequently asked questions” sheet to provide you quick answers to typical questions. There is also a document about different places to serve in Cincinnati, which are divided into themes. Service is a element of our Franciscan school, where it is our motto to help young men and women grow “in holiness and learning” rooted in Jesus Christ.

From Our School Nurse…

Immunization Requirement for Senior Year. Ohio law requires all incoming 12th grade students to be vaccinated against meningococcal disease with 2 doses of the Meningococcal/MCV4 vaccine. One dose is due before entering 7th grade, the second before 12th grade. If the first dose was given on or after the 16th birthday, only 1 dose is required. Please call your student's physician to receive this immunization or to get an up to date copy of vaccine records for the school. Completed immunization documentation needs to be forwarded to the nurse's office. This can be sent to our school nurse via email at or via fax to 513-618-7051. If you have any questions, please contact our school nurse, Karin Herold, via email or leave a voice message 513-641-1300, ext 1140.
