Endowed Scholarships
Roger Bacon High School alumni and friends have long appreciated the distinct values of a Roger Bacon education. Over the years, individuals, families, and class groups took meaningful steps to ensure future generations could share in this experience by establishing permanently endowed scholarships. These contributions are preserved in full, with only the annual investment income used to provide tuition assistance for current Spartans.
The number of these scholarships has grown to include more than 85 individually named funds. Today, Roger Bacon’s endowment fund totals over $18 million.
We are deeply grateful to the generous donors who have made these opportunities possible. Together, these endowed scholarships provide over $400,000 in tuition assistance annually. While most are awarded based on financial need, many also reflect the unique intentions or values of the donors who created them.
The minimum level to establish a named endowment fund is currently $50,000, which can be achieved through a one-time gift or through several gifts during a mutually agreeable period of time. The donor(s) may at any time - and is encouraged to do so - increase the principal of an endowed fund by making additional gifts to the fund. Roger Bacon will distribute no more than 5% of the scholarship each year to ensure the scholarship lives on forever. Our goal is to distribute the endowed scholarship across all grade levels so the scholarship travels with the students during their time at Roger Bacon.
Unless otherwise agreed upon by the donor and the high school, the school's treasurer places the funds in a commingled pool of funds, which is administered according to the current investment policies of the high school. Only the income generated by the endowment fund’s principal is disbursed. The rate of return may vary depending upon prevailing conditions affecting the investments. Income earned above the draw is reinvested to grow the fund through capital appreciation. Although named funds' assets are commingled in one investment fund, the school makes every attempt to maintain accurate records of the value of each individual named fund.
