Alex Meacham '95 | A Life Centered on People

For Alex Meacham '95, success has never been measured solely by accomplishments or accolades. Instead, it has always been about people.

Throughout his career, Meacham has dedicated himself to inspiring, mentoring, and serving others. Whether through youth athletics, mental health advocacy, nonprofit leadership, or broadcasting, his life's work reflects a commitment to helping others discover their potential—a calling that first began taking shape during his time at Roger Bacon High School.

"I met so many great people at Roger Bacon that impacted my life in a positive way," Meacham said. "Students, teachers, and administrators gave me the confidence and motivation to go out into the real world and be great."

Today, Meacham serves as Director of Shining Star Sports, one of Greater Cincinnati's premier youth basketball organizations, which recently celebrated its 25th anniversary and now operates 44 basketball teams throughout the region. He also leads I'Mportant Inc., a nonprofit organization that partners with 20 schools and serves more than 400 students through mental health and leadership programming.

His passion for serving the community has earned him nominations to the Boards of Trustees for both Talbert House and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Cincinnati. In addition, he is entering his 12th season as a high school basketball analyst for Local 12 (CBS), is the author of the Cincinnati Enquirer bestseller Walk of a Lifetime, and previously collaborated with Brand Jordan on the 2011 release of the Air Jordan Bin V sneaker.

While his career has taken him in many different directions, Meacham credits Roger Bacon with helping him develop the confidence to pursue every opportunity that came his way.

Several faculty members left a lasting impression on him.

"Barb Coyle inspired me to give back and help others. Mr. McGrath taught me to authentically be myself. Mr. Brewer told me that I would eventually do great things. Mr. Starkey gave me the confidence to join the University of Cincinnati basketball team."

Those lessons, rooted in encouragement and authentic relationships, continue to guide Meacham today.

One Roger Bacon memory remains especially meaningful more than three decades later. During his senior year, he received the school's Spirit Award—an honor recognizing a student who exemplifies the values of Roger Bacon High School.

"It was such an honor because the award represented someone who embodied what Roger Bacon stood for," Meacham said. "To this day, I still tell people about receiving that award."

Reflecting on his journey, Meacham believes one of the greatest gifts Roger Bacon gave him was an appreciation for the importance of community.

"I learned that no matter what challenges you face in life, it is important to have good people around you to help guide you through adversity," he said. "We can't navigate through life alone."

It's a lesson that has shaped every chapter of his career. Whether mentoring young athletes, supporting students' mental health, or serving nonprofit organizations, Meacham has remained focused on investing in others.

"My journey in life has been amazing so far," he said. "It has centered around people—the people who impacted me and the people I have impacted. At the end of the day, life is all about people."

For today's Spartans preparing for their own futures, his advice is both simple and encouraging:

"Everyone is a genius at something. The key is to discover your genius. Once you do that… go be great."

As Roger Bacon prepares to celebrate its centennial, alumni like Alex Meacham continue to demonstrate how a Franciscan education extends far beyond graduation. Through leadership, service, and a genuine commitment to others, he exemplifies what it means to be a Spartan for life.
