Two Seniors Earn Special Recognition in Caring for our Watersheds Competition

Roger Bacon is proud to announce that Joseph Britton '25 and Owen Clare '25 earned special recognition in this year's Caring for our Watersheds competition for the State of Ohio!

In the competition, students answer the question : "What can we do to improve our watershed?" Students identify an environmental concern that impacts the watersheds in the State of Ohio and then come up with an idea to address the concern. Students then submit written proposals to support their idea and all finalists and those who earned special recognition were honored at a banquet at the Cincinnati Zoo in April.

Joseph and Owen's proposed project, “Clear Flow: Advancing River Water Filtration,” was one of the top 20 projects submitted in the state of Ohio and submitted as part of Mrs. Sara Russell’s Environmental Science class. This is the second time students from Mrs. Russell's class have entered the contest and the second year in a row that a group of her students were recognized in the top finishes!

At the awards ceremony, we caught up with two RB alums who work for the Hamilton County Conservation District: AmeriCorps Member Meggie Suffoletta ‘19 and Ohio Program Coordinator Gwen Z. Roth ‘91. They are both shining examples of taking things learned in the walls of RB and applying it into their every day careers.

Congratulations to Joseph and Owen on this amazing accomplishment!
