Molly Mohr ’27 Takes Her Passion for Medicine to the University of Cambridge

For Roger Bacon High School senior Molly Mohr ’27, her experience thanks to the St. Clare Society at Roger Bacon opened the door to a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to explore her interest in medicine on an international stage.

This summer, Molly traveled to England to participate in The Cambridge Tradition, a two-week intensive program through Oxbridge Academic Programs at Jesus College at the University of Cambridge. There, she immersed herself in the study of medicine while learning alongside students from around the world.

The program combined specialist lectures, hands-on experiments and class discussions focused on human anatomy, physiology and modern medical practice. For Molly, the experience provided an opportunity to go beyond what she could learn in a traditional classroom.

“My professor led our class in detailed lectures about the lungs, the respiratory system, the heart, and surface-level anatomy of the body,” Molly said. “Additionally, I learned how to perform basic suturing and even dissected a pig’s heart.”

While academics were at the heart of the experience, Molly’s time at Cambridge also provided opportunities for cultural enrichment and personal growth. Students explored the historic university community, participated in activities together and spent a day in London.

The experience also allowed Molly to build friendships with students from around the world.

“Not only did I return home with new skills and medical knowledge, but also lifelong friendships from around the world,” she said.

For Molly, the opportunity was about more than spending two weeks studying medicine in England. It was a chance to discover more about a field she is passionate about while experiencing a new culture and challenging herself in an entirely new environment.

“It truly was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I am grateful to RB for making it possible!” Molly said.

Molly’s experience is one example of the opportunities available through Roger Bacon’s St. Clare Society, which was established to encourage and support students who demonstrate exceptional academic curiosity, leadership and a desire to pursue meaningful opportunities beyond the traditional classroom.

Through the St. Clare Society, Roger Bacon students are encouraged to explore their interests, pursue academic enrichment and take advantage of experiences that challenge them to grow as students and as individuals.

For Molly, that journey took her across the Atlantic and into the historic halls of the University of Cambridge — where she not only gained valuable medical knowledge and hands-on skills, but also returned home with a broader perspective, new friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.
