AP Science Students Participate in SEMEDS

On February 22, ten Roger Bacon AP science students had the opportunity to travel to Wright Pat Air Force Base to participate in SEMEDS. Per the program, "SEMEDS is is a unique program that brings local students and their teachers to Wright Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB) to operate state-of-the-art scanning electron microscopes in a real life laboratory setting. This motivating educational outreach program is conducted by volunteers from across WPAFB and is sponsored by the Air Force Research Laboratory Materials and Manufacturing Directorate."

RB students learned directly from scientists about the role these microscopes play in research at the at the Air Force Research Laboratory Materials and Manufacturing Directorate. They got hands-on time with the $500,000 microscopes; exploring a diverse set of sample that ranged from fleas and leaves to observing the micro-structure of a cell phone screen.

Thanks to Mrs. Russel and Mrs. Gardner for setting up this great opportunity for RB's finest scientists!
