Mia Sebens

Class of 2027

For senior Mia Sebens, some of the best things about Roger Bacon aren’t necessarily the biggest moments.

They’re the everyday ones.

Someone saying hello in the hallway. Meeting a new friend in an elective. Spending time with teammates before practice. Holding the door for someone you barely know.

Those little moments are a big part of what made Roger Bacon feel like home to Mia — and four years later, they’re still what she loves most about being a Spartan.

A graduate of St. Ursula Villa, Mia first considered Roger Bacon after hearing about the experiences of her older sister, Ellie, '25, and her neighbors, Kellen, RIley, and Alaina Finan, '22. But it was her own shadow day that sealed the decision.

“I had an amazing shadow experience,” Mia said. “The thing I love most about Roger Bacon is its small size, which makes everyone feel connected.”

Mia has certainly made the most of that experience.

She plays soccer and flag football, serves as a Senior Leader and Student Ambassador, serving as President of the Student Ambassador Council, and is a member of Roger Bacon’s Assisi Scholars program.

Of all those experiences, being selected as an Assisi Scholar ranks among her proudest accomplishments at RB. This spring, she’ll have the opportunity to participate in the Assisi Scholars pilgrimage to Italy, just like her sister Ellie did in 2025, and is one of the things she is looking forward to most during her senior year.

But when Mia looks back on her time at Roger Bacon, one role stands out even more: Senior Leader.

“It has been such a great experience,” she said. “I love being able to have a group of people who are new to RB under my wing. Every time one of them says "Hi" to me in the hallway or holds a door for someone, it makes my day.” This includes brother Matthew, who is in Roger Bacon's freshmen class of 2030.

It’s a fitting full-circle moment for someone who originally fell in love with Roger Bacon because of the way a smaller school could make people feel known and connected.

Outside of school, Mia plays club soccer and enjoys going to the movies. After graduation, she hopes to continue playing soccer in college while majoring in biology and minoring in exercise science. Her long-term goal is to attend physician assistant school and eventually work in orthopedics.

And while she has packed plenty into her four years at Roger Bacon, she does have one regret.

“I wish I had started flag football earlier!”

Her favorite teacher is Mr. Smith in the Science Department, "because he is always so fun to be around" and her Cincinnati chili allegiance belongs firmly to Skyline. Her favorite ice crream order is Graeter’s Black Raspberry Chip.

One thing that might surprise her classmates?

She doesn’t like cheese.

For students considering Roger Bacon, though, Mia’s advice goes beyond programs, activities or even the opportunities she has enjoyed herself.

“You should choose RB not because of the special, standout moments and opportunities, but because of the everyday things,” she said, “like waving to someone in the hallway or meeting new people in an elective or hanging out with your teammates and friends before practice, an after-school activity or rehearsal. It is these little moments that have meant the most to me, and something that makes Roger Bacon a special place to be."

For Mia, those everyday moments became four years of memories.

And now, as a senior, she’s helping make sure the next generation of Spartans feels that same connection.

“Mia is a ball of energy who is capable of things she doesn’t realize yet. She brings a passion to her studies - excelling academically. She is a great athlete who demonstrated immense strength as she has fought through adversity. But most importantly, she is someone who sees the value in being the best sister, teammate, and friend she can be. She is a gift to RB!”
