Special Education Services

The special education staff at Roger Bacon High School use a variety of services to provide the necessary support for students and general educators. Our staff will consult with you to decide which services will create a symbiotic balance between compassion and challenge that yields maximum results in learning. Accommodations are strategies and supports that enable a student to participate as independently as possible within the regular education classroom. Accommodations do not change the objectives for learning, but rather how the student will take in the information or the response.

Students will either be placed on an IEP or an Accommodation Plan to receive support from their grade-level intervention specialist, speech/language pathologist, or the school psychologist as deemed necessary following an Evaluation Team Report (ETR).

Examples of some of the accommodations provided:

  • Extended time of 1.5X (50% extra) on classroom tests, quizzes, and exams longer than 15 minutes, but not to exceed 1 school day
  • Access to technology for speech-to-text or text-to-speech
  • Preferential seating
  • Clarification of directions on tests/assignments
  • Chunking of assignments
