Spartans qualify for state!

Austin Fulton (junior) and Sam Johnstone (senior) are heading to state after their great performances in the Regional Meet last week at Piqua High School. Sam Johnstone ran a 4:24.15 in the 1600m finishing as regional runner up by nearly 1/4 of a second. This will be Sam's 3rd straight trip to the State Meet which makes him the only Spartan ever to qualify for State 3 straight years!

Austin Fulton will join Sam on the trip to Columbus after his two podium finishes on Saturday. Austin placed 3rd in the 400m dash by running a 50.53 and was named Regional Champion in the high jump after jumping 6'4! Austin holds a share of the school record for high jump at 6'6 which he jumped previously this season.

Head Coach, Mike Braun, has nothing but great words to say of them both. "I am proud of the accomplishments of both Sam Johnstone and Austin Fulton. Both have put in hours of hard work in their training to reach what they have set out to accomplish. Sam, being the only 3x State qualifier, proves his determination and focus to finish off what he put his mind to when he made State his Sophomore year. Austin is the ultimate competitor. He performs at his best when all eyes are on him. He has accomplished a District Championship and a Regional Championship, now it's time for him to capture one final Championship."

The State Track Meet takes place on June 2-3 at the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at The Ohio State University. Austin will run in the 400m dash semifinals on June 2nd at 3:10 PM, if he advances then he will run in the finals on June 3rd at 2:05 PM. He will jump in the high jump prelims on June 3rd at 9:30 AM. Sam will run in the 1600m finals on June 3rd at 1:35 PM.
