Spanish Club honors Mr. Jim Schad '45 with Ofrenda
The Spanish Club has made an ofrenda in the Fine Arts Center to recognize Principal Schad's late father, Mr. Jim Schad '45. An ofrenda is a combination of the Catholic tradition of All Saints Day, Nov. 1st, and All Souls Day, Nov. 2nd , and the Aztec traditions of Mexico. This tradition comes mainly from Mexico and started around 3,000 years ago. It is a chance to celebrate the lives of dearly departed loved ones and invite their souls to come back and visit on All Saints Day and All Souls Day. On the ofrenda in the Fine Arts Center you will find some of the departed soul’s favorite things. On this particular ofrenda is a referee’s shirt to represent Mr. Schad's 40 years of service to the youth of our area as a football and basketball referee. A golf ball to represent his love for the sport of golf. A Roger Bacon hat and t-shirt to represent his membership in the Roger Bacon family as a graduating member of the class of 1945. Finally, his favorite food, a New York Strip Steak and pretzels with a Cool Blue Gatorade.
