Sisters 4 Life!
During flex on Friday, September 29th, Room 23 was filled with forty-two Roger Bacon ladies who were eager to join a new club, Sisters 4 Life. The brain child of Amari Thurmond and Makiya Wiggins, this club was formed to promote positive attitudes toward females emphasizing self-worth, personal strength, sisterhood with other females, and drawing attention to causes unique to women.
The turnout for the first meeting exceeded all expectations of its leaders. Students from all grade-levels were present. With the membership expected to swell, a new location will be found for the second meeting. According to Makiya, “The turnout was great.I feel like we will have an even better turnout at the next meeting.”
Sisters 4 Life immediately snapped into action, planning the first initiative. With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the group members decided to identify a number of activities to hold during October to enhance awareness to a disease that impacts one in every eight women. Amari remarked, “I think that it’s going to be a great year where we learn about ourselves and other people and grow as sisters becoming a group of females that Roger Bacon High School will never forget.”
The group plans flex bell activities and other get-togethers that promote all things positive--friendship, loyalty, diversity, positive self-image, and respect for womanhood. Mrs. Ausere and Dr. Luebbe will moderate this club.
