RB Welcomes New Faculty
As we start the 2018-2019 school year, Roger Bacon welcomes some new and some familiar faces to the faculty.
Joining us this year is Mr. Brian Charlton – School Psychologist, Ms. Caroline Ray – Social Studies, Mr. Adam Couch – Theology, Mr. Nick Rosenfeldt – English, Mr. Steve Kurz ’72 – Social Studies, Mr. Eric Neuhaus – Mathematics, and Mr. Steven Smith - Science.
Ms. Caroline Ray graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in History and Psychology and received a Master of Education from Xavier University. She will be teaching US History, Psychology, and US Government and Politics.
Mr. Adam Couch graduated from Saint Louis University with a degree in Theological Studies and the Christian Intellectual Tradition. After a year volunteer teaching with the Alum Service Corp in St Louis, he eventually found his way to Cincinnati where he received a Master of Arts in Theology from Xavier University. He will be teaching Christology, Church History, World Religions, and Vocations.
Mr. Nick Rosenfeldt has been a high school English teacher for the last fifteen years. He has previously taught at both public and private schools in Cincinnati, and has experience with and a passion for working with a diverse student body. Having graduated from Geneva College in 2001, Mr. Rosenfeldt is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in English and Education. He will be teaching Freshman English across all academic tracks.
Mr. Steve Kurz ’72 has extensive experience working in the mental health field. In additional to teaching Psychology, he continues working in a private therapy practice that is devoted to the integration of psychology and spirituality.
Mr. Eric Neuhaus, a 16-year veteran teacher, has experience at another Franciscan high school, Oldenburg Academy. He most recently spent the last two years teaching in a public school. When asked about being at Roger Bacon Mr. Neuhaus said; “I'm extremely excited to return to teaching in a Catholic school, and very grateful to the faculty and students who have been so welcoming.”
Mr. Steve Smith earned a degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Akron and a Master of Education from Mount St. Joseph University. He is not new to teaching in a Catholic school. Last year, he was a member of the Mother of Mercy faculty. Mr. Smith brings some new energy to the Science Department, teaching Biology and Anatomy and Physiology.
New this year, but not new to Roger Bacon is Mrs. Johanna Becker – Theology and Mr. Tom Merkle ’74 – Social Studies. Mrs. Becker began her teaching career at Roger Bacon and most recently taught religion at Mother of Mercy High School. “It’s so good to return to a place I called my first home in teaching! Though the charism is the same, the environment has changed and grown. Roger Bacon holds a special place in my heart, and the deep sense of compassion is felt throughout the halls. I felt it, again, the minute I returned. I am looking forward to what God has in store for me on this new journey as a Spartan once again!”
Tom Merkle ’74 served as Athletic Director during the 2013-2014 school year before returning to his role as a Senior Vice President with Fifth Third.
Welcome (back) to Roger Bacon!
