RB Hairless Heroes
Starting as a thought while walking up Constitution Ave in Washington, DC while on the 2017 March for Life, Christian Jones ’19 idea finally became a reality. On Thursday, February 1, 2018 Roger Bacon donated $2,285.85 to the Saint Baldrick Foundation to help conquer childhood cancer. Forty-two students and four administrators bravely underwent being shorn in our first ever RB Hairless Hero Day. Each Spartan sold tickets to have their head shaved (men, and one woman) or eight inches cut (women’s hair was donated to the Hair We Share program). Those who bought tickets from these Hairless Heroes were placed into a lottery for a chance to shave/cut the hair of their Hero (alongside an adult supervisor).
“The success of this event goes to our Project Leaders, Christian Jones ’19 and Anna Merz ’20, whose organization, motivation and dedication brought this to fruition. With all the moving parts of the event, a special thanks to the whole Community Outreach Board. They were focused and truly professional. As a whole, this shows our faith in Jesus Christ that is put into the action with those in need,” said Fr. Roger Lopez, OFM, the Director of Community Outreach. With deepest gratitude, thank you to the four stylist – Maggie Freson ’13, Jack McDaniel, Christina Williams, Julie Kneidl and Jordan Brummett ’11 – who donated their time and talent for our RB Hairless Heroes.
