Class of 2017 Top Ten - Week 5
Congratulations to the Class of 2017 Top Ten!
For the past five weeks, we showcased the students who, through their hard work and dedication, graduated at the top of their class.
2. Liza Hoopes
Acceptances: Ohio State University, Indiana University, University of Akron
College and Major: The Ohio State University, School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences – Health Sciences
Total Scholarships Offered: $115,000
Liza Hoopes is our 2017 Salutatorian. When asked about this achievement, she laughingly responded “I don’t really know how I got here. It wasn’t something that I was aiming for; I just did what I was supposed to do – my homework, study, and work hard.”
She chose The Ohio State University because she liked the sized of the campus, and all of the opportunities it offers. Her plan is to follow in her mother’s footsteps and go to medical school.
“I am going to miss the friends I made and the circle pizzas – a lot.”
1. Sam Johnstone
Acceptances: Ohio State University, University of Cincinnati, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Purdue University, and Colorado
School of Mines
College and Major: The Ohio State University, College of Engineering – Engineering
Total Scholarships Offered: $201,000
Sam Johnstone is our 2017 Valedictorian. “This is the culmination of all of my hard work and something I am very proud of.”
He chose The Ohio State University because of the location, the size of school, and the price. “Thanks to my scholarships, OSU was affordable – much more than the other schools.”
Engineering is a good fit for Sam. “I have always been interested in Math and Science. It is something I enjoy doing and can be successful in.” Sam is looking forward to continuing his Track career as a preferred walk-on after running in the State tournament for three consecutive years. He is also excited to be on his own in a new city.
Congratulations to the 2017 Top Ten and to all of our graduates!
