Basketball sweeps weekend for the Spartans

The Spartans beat the  Badin Rams for the 18th time in a row this past Friday. After the first quarter of play, Badin had scored two points. Two. The game was essentially over at that point, with the Spartans leading from the opening tip to the final buzzer. The final score for the match-up was 63-45.

On Monday, the level of competition and the environment were very different, though the results were still outstanding. The Spartans played Tipp City Bethel in the Flyin’ to the Hoop tournament at Trent Arena in Kettering, ultimately winning 74-54. Many Division I college scouts and coaches were in attendance as this tournament draws some incredible teams and individual players. The Spartans opponents were 13-1 coming into this game and were very highly regarded. The Spartan defense, again, was smothering. The Spartans had twice as many steals as turnovers, with Craig McGee committing eight steals on his own. Bethel played a zone defense expecting RB to not be able to shoot over it. Bad decision on their part: the Spartans shot 50% from three point range. Alec Pfriem was 3 of 3 behind the arc which contributed to his team-leading 22 point output. It was a great team performance against very good competition.
