Bacon Buddies Revamp
The well known Community Outreach organization, Bacon Buddies, has changed its structure to serve more kids in our community and to allow more Bacon students to be involved. When Fr. Roger Lopez received the applications for Bacon Buddies this year he was overwhelmed. "The response was incredible. We had over 65 students apply, and I felt there was no way we could tell them no." Because of the demand, Fr. Roger reached out to other local schools and was able to add two additional schools to whom our students can serve. The traditional Bacon Buddies school, St. Francis Seraph, is still one of the 'Fraternities.' The two other schools that have been added are St. Clement and Holy Family. Each fraternity is run by two student leaders who train all the Bacon Buddies, schedule carpools and create the activities for each outing to the school.
It is a lot of work for the student leaders, but it is giving them the chance to learn new organizational skills and a new leadership opportunity. When asked what their favorite part of the Bacon Buddies, all of the leaders say the same thing, "The smile on the kids faces when we get there."
Roger Bacon is happy to have so many students who want to go out into the community and work with kids.
