2018 Assisi Scholars Make New Friends

Following years of anticipation and hard work, the Assisi Scholars and their parents met on Sept. 6th in in the Information Technology Center for dinner, conversation, and questions about the impending pilgrimage to Assisi and Rome.Joining the Roger Bacon group were four students and a chaperone from Oldenburg Academy, a sister Franciscan school from Oldenburg, Indiana.

This gathering offered our students and the Oldenburg students an opportunity to meet before traveling together to Italy on October 5th.During this working dinner, Mr. Schad discussed his expectations of the pilgrims and offered travel tips that will make the journey easier for the students. Questions about conversions of American dollars to the Euro, using technology abroad, and how much money to take to Italy for gelato changed the participants’ anxiety to laughter.

Senior Assisi Scholar, Courtney Dulaney, comment “Although the food was comforting, the interactions between our Spartan family and the Oldenburg family as well as the comments delivered by our beloved principal made both the pilgrims and our parents feel both comfortable and enthused for the future pilgrimage.”
