When thinking about Faces of RB, faces you see more than others around our campus, you should think of the Powers Family. Jon '90 and Beth '99 have been around Roger Bacon for years and in many roles. As students, they were both involved in the Band. Jon was also involved in Drama and Beth was a part of the Wrestlettes. After their tenure as students, Jon continued to help the Drama Department with set design. "Our families have always been involved at Roger Bacon," said Beth, "my Dad traveled everywhere with the band and the rest of my family and JP's family was involved too." This family tradition has continued on to a new era. Jon has worked at Roger Bacon full-time since 1992 and Beth started off as a substitute teacher before becoming the school's Kitchen Manager two years ago. "We love being a part of the Roger Bacon community. Through all these years there are many things that have changed, but there is still a warmth and Franciscan spirit alive in these halls."
After receiving two nominations for the Face of RB, we knew we had to showcase these alumni who are still so involved in Roger Bacon and embody many of the Franciscan values engrained in our Spartans. The theme is the same from both people who nominated the Powers', dedication. JP and Beth have been dedicated to Roger Bacon. Whether it be making sure all our students have lunch or the parking lots cleared of snow at 3AM, they put in extra hours and work very hard to be sure our Spartans are safe and happy. Sue Huerkamp, Director of Alumni Relations, who nominated the duo said, "In the halls of RB there are some extraordinary people who give extra time and hands-on help beyond their paid positions. Jon and Beth Powers are two of those extraordinary people. I’ve known Jon since 1995 volunteering for many events as a parent and for ten years more as an employee who needs behind-the-scenes help with events. He has always been 100% reliable and helpful.Beth has provided tremendous help with alumni events this year beyond cafeteria/kitchen duties. The extra time (hours on weekends included) and dedication given by the Powers is amazing and most appreciated!"

Beth and Jon's impact can be felt at every event held at Roger Bacon. Without their help, that feeling of home may not be as noticeable for our Spartans, old and new. Especially for our alumni -- there have been many changes since the years these two have graduated. JP said the only spaces that have not changed since he graduated 26 years ago are the cafeteria (soon to change this summer) and sophomore hallway classrooms. Beth feels as though we have a smaller student body but our kids are still the same. They encourage our alumni to come back and experience Bacon all over again, "Come back home. See what we've done with the building. Get involved and reconnect with your classmates."
Roger Bacon is made up of many faces, different faces. We hope to showcase a wide range of our Spartans as possible. If you would like to nominate a Spartan, past or present, to be featured as a Face of RB please click here
