As a student and Research Assistant at the University of Chicago, I often reflect back on my roots to ascertain just how I have burgeoned as a driven scholar eager both to learn and to contribute to scientific knowledge as an aspiring academic researcher. Without fail, my mind always settles on Roger Bacon’s Assisi Scholars Program.

As the embodiment of a rigorous Franciscan education, the Assisi Scholars Program crafts a unique academic and Franciscan environment in which I was encouraged to pursue my individual passions and realize my self-confidence during a time when it’s all too easy to feel lost. Better yet, being an Assisi Scholar provided me with a platform to share in this transformative process with supportive faculty and inspirational peers who both understood my experience and took pride in my personal growth. But I found that the cleverest quality of the Assisi Scholars Program was its intimate relationship with the entire Roger Bacon education.

Nowhere else can you interweave an academic program grounded in moral and spiritual development with unending opportunities to mature as a community leader through service, accessible sports teams, and intercultural exposure.
